We look for a broad selection of high school course work from our incoming freshmen. Most successful applicants will have taken:

  • 4 units of English
  • 4 units of college preparatory math (Algebra I, II, and Geometry are required)
  • 4 units of laboratory sciences
  • 4 units in social studies, including American history
  • 3-4 units in foreign language

Additionally, Virginia residents are encouraged to complete the Advanced Studies Diploma. Pre-nursing students are strongly advised to complete units in biology and chemistry. If you are enrolled in Advanced Placement courses, plan to take the AP test in May of your senior year. RU uses the College Board Advanced Placement Tests, the International Baccalaureate Examinations and the College Level Examination Program to award graduation credits.

Application Deadlines

Applications are received with two primary deadlines: December 1 for Early Action and February 1 for Regular Decision. Early Action applications will be notified no later than January 15; Regular Decision applicants will be notified by April 1. Students who wish to be considered for RU merit scholarships are encouraged to complete their applications by January 15th. Students applying after February 1st will be considered on a space available basis.
